Salvation is not a reward for the righteous, it is a gift for the guilty.
– Steve Lawson.
Clement of Alexandria once said, ‘If God rewarded the righteous immediately, we would soon be engaged in business, not godliness… we would be pursuing not piety, but profit’, which is very true. In this day and age, when achievements and careers take priority in everything we do. If God’s reward is earned right away, wonder how everybody will compete for it. And everybody will be fighting for it, not because they want to be godly. But because of the rewards, they will earn.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Proverbs 11:18. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of 2nd Chronicles 7:3: God Is Good – His Mercy Endures Forever
Your earnings according to your deeds
King Solomon, by the wisdom given to him by God, clearly explained the earnings we each of us will receive according to our deeds, The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward. Anything we do that is under the will of God; we will reap a sure reward. But when we do the opposite, we will be in the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41).
What will you earn?
Have you reflected on what will you earn after you die? If you have not. Then now is a good time to ponder about it. Moreover, whether you believe in heaven, hell or reincarnation, that does not matter. Because at the end of the day the truth is based on God’s words and His plan. And according to the scriptures, there is a heaven and hell.
For those who want to earn eternal life. It is simple. Repent from your sins, turn away from them and sin no more. Furthermore, do not rely on your ‘goodness’, rather, rely upon Jesus Christ who is The Only Way to the Father. Likewise, live your life following the Spirit. Asking for the fruits of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22-23) to be manifested in you. Also, do not be afraid to share Jesus with others. In that way, they too will earn the promise of God through Christ.
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.

Prayer
Righteous God, I want to be more like You so help me actively pursue righteousness and love. I do not want to waste my time being like the world because the world can only offer me temporary, unsatisfactory things. I choose to seek You because I know that You offer life, prosperity and honour. Your Word says that the righteous will never be shaken and will be remembered forever. I thank You for Your righteousness, Amen.
