Be Wise In Your Obedience

The Lord gives His people perpetual joy when they walk in obedience to Him.

D.L. Moody.

I was never good at obeying. Questions and hesitations always bubble up when I am asked to obey certain things. Are you like me? Furthermore, in life, there are hard things to obey. And a lot of factors come into play. In today’s scriptures, Paul reminds us to be wise in obedience. And the wisdom he pertains to is coming from God.

Bible Reading

Today’s devotional reading is from the Letter of Paul to the Romans 16:19. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of Jeremiah 4:22: Living In Foolishness And Stupidity

Wisdom in obedience

In Paul’s final greetings to the Romans, he has mentioned how delighted he was for their obedience to Christ. Moreover, he reminded them to be wise in their obedience. It is the same message he has sent to the Corinthians, examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves (2 Corinthians 13:5).

Therefore, we should pray to God that He will send His spirit to guide us for He promised, and I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules (Ezekiel 36:26). Further, the Holy Spirit will teach us how to be wise in obeying Christ Jesus. Accept Jesus Now.

Continue the obedience

James wrote, blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him (James 1:12). And let this be a reminder for us to be wise in obeying the will of the Father continually.

Additionally, daily praying for the Holy Spirit to lead us. For it is written, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come (John 16:13).

Reflection

This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
  1. Are you good at obeying?
  2. Do you ponder whether you are obeying something that is right?
  3. What are your reflections on obedience?
  4. How do you explain blind obedience?
  5. Do you share with others that it is important to be wise in obedience?

Prayer

Father God, Thou art the only true God and Thou art the only God men have ever been taught about, Who condescends to love His people as a father. Help us, O God, to be obedient children, but help us also to cast out of our hearts and minds all things that might hinder us in a whole and holy love for Thee. As Thou didst love the world, help us to love. As Thou didst give Thyself for us, help us to give ourselves for Thee.

For Christ’s sake. Amen.
