Scripture
3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. — Luke 4:3-4 KJV
Observation
The very first appearance of Satan on the Earth was in the garden of Eden. He appeared before Eve in the body of the serpent as a rebel, liar and deceiver. His goal was to lead Adam and Eve astray from God, and he achieved his goal.
Right after the baptism Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness (Luke 1:1-2), which is the territory of enemy. Satan wanted to trick Jesus. He tempted Christ to disobey Father’s will and using Jesus’ hunger for food as weakness Satan proposed his solution – “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread“. First, Jesus affirmed Satan that the statement what He is about to say “is written“. It is very powerful statement itself, which assures everyone that the Word of God, same as God Himself, is eternal: it was, it is, and it will exist unchangeable forever. Second, Jesus reminded Satan that people cannot live by merely food – “man shall not live by bread alone“, they also need instructions and guidance from God – “but by every word of God“.
Very often we get into wilderness ourselves: work routine and stress, arguments and lack of communication in the families, financial problems, addictions etc. Satan always waits for us when we get week and disoriented to make his move. The Word of God is His instructions for us. Same, like map and compass, God’s word directs us and guides us. Without Word of God we will “wander is the wilderness” like without map and compass, and any waymarks.
If we read the Bible regularly and God’s Word is in our hearts, He will keep us away from sin and will keep us aligned with His will.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are merciful and loving Father. We thank You, Lord God, that You provides us with all what we need and even more. We pray, Lord that by Your Word You will guide us through the wilderness into Your Kingdom. We pray that Your loving Word will stick to our hearts, so we may not sin against you, that we will know Your will and will obey it.
This we pray in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen
