God won’t allow anything happen in your life if it’s not for your good.
Nick Vujicic
I had a recent conversation with a friend about our careers. We are both working as nurses, but on different areas. She is on acute care and I, on the other hand, am working with the elderlies. In our talk, she was encouraging me to apply and work on acute set up to practice and gain skills. Which brings both of us back to the conversation we had at the start of the lockdowns.
I remembered how I applied to almost all acute care open position with no call back. As a result, I got a bit of disheartened. But I looked at it as a firm hand of God, saying to me that I should stay and serve the elderlies, their loved ones, and the staff of the communities. However, my friend thinks I prefer my current position rather than being on the floor.
Scripture
Jeremiah 29:11 ESV For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Observation
During the earlier months that I came to know Jesus through His words, it was clear for me that I no longer direct the path I have to take. Whether the decision was about my marriage, my family or even my career, I have the guidance of the Lord through the Holy Spirit. This counsel I am talking about is received when we fervently pray and ask for the direction to take. As it is written in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, pray without ceasing.
I do recall those events in my life where I have planned everything and ended up disappointed. It took me a while before I understood why my plans did not come in fruition. In 1 John it says: And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to HIS WILL he hears us (5:17 ESV). His plan for me was different from the plans I had made.
Eventually, I learned through the help of the Holy Spirit to seek God’s plan in all circumstances or decisions I face. I may not be in the career I planned 5 years ago, but I know that God is leading me where He wanted me to go. To be able to serve the people He wants me to serve and to minister to them for His glory.
Application
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV
- What are the plans you have?
- Reflect on what is your attitude on events not going according to your plan.
- Do you know and trust God’s plan for you?
- What is your attitude on God’s plan in your life?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You are indeed our good father. We thank You for Your constant provision of blessing that we do not deserve. But because You love us, You give us more than we are worthy of. Thank You most of all for Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for our sins. We pray that we will understand Your plans for us Lord. And to be submissive to You like the example set by Jesus before us. We ask the guidance of the Holy Spirit to pray in accordance to Your will and not of ours.
All these we ask through Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
