Family Worship Guarantees Love And Bonding

At 08:45, father took the old brass-bound Bible from its shelf. He opened to the reading of Jeremiah where we had left off the night before, then with sudden inspiration passed the Bible across the table to Meyer.

Corrie Ten Boom – Excerpts from the Hiding Place (p.102)

I grew up in a family where praying daily was more of a personal activity rather than a group one. Moreover, I remember in my childhood that my mama will ask us to pray the rosary together. But most of the time it ends up with me and my siblings, bickering or laughing about little irrelevant things. At the same time, my family goes to church to hear mass often, but this was only during Wednesdays (novena) and Sundays (mass).

Is your family doing a daily prayer together? Is Bible reading included in your family time?

Scripture

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 KJV 6And these words, which I command the this day, shall be in the thine heart. 7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Observation

When I was saved, I realized that the importance of prayer and Bible readings are not only on a personal level. Rather, these practices should be done by the entire family. Furthermore, Jesus said: For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them (Matthew18:20 ESV). This verse does not mean that God cannot hear our private prayers. Instead this encourages His followers to be gathered together in praying, worshipping and learning the scriptures.

Hebrews was successfully in teaching the children about their religion. This was because of how they incorporated the law and the statutes handed to them in their every day life. In addition, the nature of these custom was more of life based and not just to gain information. Further, Hebrew children were taught about God in their daily activities, no matter how simple or complex these tasks may be.

This made me realize how important the parents role in cultivating God’s words to their children. Parents should educate the kids at a young age. This will prepare the little hearts of children to accept the Gospel of Jesus. Complementing this with an attitude that you, as parents, are also learning with them will help children understand the importance of the scripture in our daily lives.

Application

This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV
  1. How often do you read the Bible?
  2. Does your family have a worship time?
  3. Have you noticed a difference between families that prays together and that does not?
  4. How can you encourage other people to read God’s words and pray?

Prayer

Almighty Father, we glorify You. We thank You for the family you place us with. In them, we can feel Your love, patience and joy. Lord Jesus, we thank You, that died for my family and my sins. We ask that the Holy Spirit will be with us today and everyday. To hear our prayers, to guide us in reading Your word and help us understand the message of Your Scriptures.

All these we pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
