And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.
Fear of Hidden
The life of Elijah is one of my favourites in the Bible. These stories uplift my soul, knowing that our Father in Heaven is listening to our pleas and watching over us always. For an instance, this event shows us that God protected Elijah by killing the previous two troops of King Ahaziah’s army by consuming them with fire from heaven. Moreover, this event also shows how God knows what is deep down our soul, emotions that are hidden deep within us. We may look tough on the outside like how Elijah portrayed himself before the two troops. But God knows that we feel fear in our hearts. And like Elijah, we should trust that God is in control and that whenever He directs us, we follow Him.
Let us not allow the hidden fear in us to overwhelm us, rather let us find courage in His words. And how does God direct us? Through the life example of our Lord and Saviour and through the moving of the Holy Spirit in each one of us. Remember that our God is not a God of fear, but He has given us the Holy Spirit that we may have courage in Him.
Prayer
Almighty God, we are often overwhelmed with fear and uncertainties. May we always be reminded that you have abolished the very thing we should be afraid of, and that is to be eternally separated from you. We thank you, Lord Jesus, for saving us. Granting us the grace of eternal life with You, the father and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
