And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.
Fear of Hate
Often when we do not like a person, we tend to also not like the people that are associated with him or her. But that was not the case with King David, a man who walks after God’s heart. Instead of shutting away the descendants of King Saul, who hated him and sought after his death, he reached out and gave them treasures, properties and servants. All because of one man, Jonathan, who showed his love and loyalty to David. And King David repaid this act of kindness by ensuring that Jonathan’s family will not fear for their lives all because of the evil deed King Saul did.
Therefore, let us not fear showing kindness even to those who hate and persecute us. Let our fear of the Lord be the only fear we put in our hearts because by doing so, all else falls away. Furthermore, let us not give others reason to fear us rather let us minister to their fear and seek our Heavenly Father.
Prayer
Our Heavenly Father, we fear your holy name above all else. We know that you are in control despite the chaos or hate we see in this world. Thank you for saving us even before difficult challenges arise. Grant us the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our journey towards your Son. And may your Words be the light unto our path. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
