Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.
Free from Fear
The wicked do prosper, this was Job’s response to his friend Zophar on his second speech. In the previous chapter, Zophar pointed out that the evil dies young, that there is no enjoyment in their life and that they will receive the fury of God. But Job stated the contrary and emphasized that wicked people are free from fear. In verse 9, we read, Their houses are safe from fear, and no rod of God is upon them (ESV). Which is also evident in the world we live in today. Corrupt evil people prosper. They are even more powerful, rich and influential than any believer. They do not fear God or even acknowledge Him. Moreover, they believe in evolution, or a greater force. But never do they recognize the God of the Bible.
However, there is some truth in Zophar’s talk. First, the wicked die young, but so do believers. Second, the wicked do not enjoy life, and this is more on the spiritual aspect and not the worldly one. Last, the wicked will receive the fury of God. This is the most scary fact that the wicked shoves under the rug. And this is for all who have not repented from their sins and accepted Jesus’ gift of salvation. Therefore, let us reflect on the state of our spiritual life. Are we walking with Christ or filling ourselves with worldly desires and happiness?
Prayer
O Lord Almighty, thank you for all your graces and mercies everyday. We pray that you will continue to guide and reprove us, through your Holy Spirit, every day of our lives. Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for the gift of eternal life despite our sinfulness and filth you clothed us with your righteousness and holiness. Grant us to live free from fear. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
