And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Fear of Physical Harm
When the event comes when you must die physically for Christ, will you be ready? Notice that I did not say “if an event comes”. Because as Christians we should know by now that there will be a moment when we will be persecuted for Christ’s sake. Do not be shocked nor be surprised, it is written all over the Bible, from the Old Testament to the New. When you believe in the Triune God of the Bible you will be hated by the people of this world. But guess what, we will prevail if we are steadfast in trusting our Lord and Savior. Jesus reminded His disciples, and in extension His believers, to not fear those who could harm the physical body, but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both body and soul in hell for eternity.
I sympathize with you when you think it is easier said than done, especially when you are amid persecution. That is why we must condition ourselves and our loved ones. Following Christ is not a walk in the park that is why we have God’s words to guide us through our life. Hold on to His promises and be sober-minded in reading the persecutions and hardships His followers underwent. Remember He did not abandon us, He sent us the Holy Spirit to guide us in our journey to the Celestial City. Be of good cheer!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, let us not be afraid of those who persecute and harm us mentally, emotionally and physically rather may these circumstances bring us closer to you. May the Holy Spirit guide us in how we react to difficult situations, knowing that we cannot control how other people act but that we can show you the way we react to them. We pray that the teachings of our Saviour be inculcated in our hearts and will be manifested in our speech and actions and bring others to you. Use us as your instrument in this world, in our workplace and in our communities. We pray in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
