Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Fear of Impending Danger
Eastern Europe is in chaos. The war between Russia and Ukraine is growing thick. And it is hard not to worry about how our loved ones, relatives and friends will be during this time. My husband mentioned one day that the type of worry is different when you are in danger compared to when it is your loved ones. And I do agree with him. However, as the verse said, “You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day”. The psalmist, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wants to relay to trust in God’s protection despite the impending danger. Furthermore, the world is always going to have war, chaos and problems because sin and sinners exist. Moreover, the prince of this world loves chaos, corruption and destruction. He wants people to die because we are the image-bearer of God, our Creator.
Let us find refuge in our Lord Jesus Christ and remind each other of this when faced with the fear of any impending danger. As it is written, I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, in whatever impending danger or problems we face for He shall deliver us from the snare of the fowler (Psalm 91:3 ESV). Repent from your sins and call on the name of Jesus Christ, for whosoever calls in Him, He will answer, He will be with them in trouble, He will rescue them and honor them (Psalm 91:15 ESV).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, our Creator and refuge, we ask for your protection on the people of Ukraine. We pray, Lord God, that you will minister unto them. Soften the hearts of the Russian army invading them. May compassion be planted in their hearts and discernment in their minds that what they are asked to do is evil. Let the fear of You be in the hearts of the Ukrainians and not the fear of impending danger. Protect them, O Lord. We ask in Jesus’ saving name. Amen.
