Because the Lord Jesus died on the Cross, I have received the forgiveness of sins.
– Watchman Nee
On yesterday’s service, the pastor in our church asked everyone that came in to write about things that they are thankful for on the board in the lobby. There were a variety of items on the board from the members of the church. What I wrote that I am thankful for is ‘life’. This life pertains to both the life He gave me on earth and the promise of eternal life in Heaven through the forgiveness of sins and the saving grace through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Acts 13:32,38. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of Revelation 3:2: What Are You, Awake or Woke?
Only through Jesus our sins are forgiven
Paul and Barnabas declare unto the Jews glad tidings that of the salvific works of Jesus crucified. Additionally, that Jesus was the Messiah promised by God to their forefathers. Moreover, that despite the sinful way they have treated the Saviour, a second chance is given that through this Man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to them. And when they believe and place their trust in God’s grace through the work of Jesus Christ they will be forgiven and saved.
Did you ask for your sins to be forgiven?
Asking for someone’s forgiveness is hard. Our pride always gets in the way. It is most especially hard when we do not realize we are at fault. Take for example, before I was saved I thought I can simply confess my sins to the priest and go my merry way. I did not realize the gravity of my sins and that I need to repent and pursue Christ. Furthermore, I was thinking that God cannot be mad at me because He is a merciful God.
But the scriptures and logic tell us that to be forgiven you have to acknowledge your sins and turn away from them. As it is written, If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
- Have you repented from your tresspasses?
- Do you have difficulty asking for forgiveness?
- How often should one repent?
- Have you asked Jesus to forgive your sins? Accept Jesus Now.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that You are quick to forgive. Thank You, that You have removed our sins as far as the east is from the west. Right now, Lord, we ask of You mercy and compassion, and we implore the forgiveness of sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
