Sometimes the end God has in mind is to exercise our faith, so He brings us into straitened circumstances so that we might look up to Him and see His deliverance.
– Jerry Bridges.
Can you recall a moment in your life when you were at the lowest point and feel desperate? How did you overcome it? Or for others, how are you coping with it? Israel, in its history, has experienced this situation. From the slavery in Egypt, defeat in battles, exile to Babylon, the Holocaust, and currently, the war between neighbouring countries. The first three points were God’s intervention for an unfaithful Israel. And the rest are brought about by people who forgot about God and turned to wicked ways.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Psalm 107:6-7. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of Deuteronomy 12:8-9: Worshipping According To One’s Eyes
God Delivers and Leads Us To A Straight Path
The Scriptures have clearly explained how we are delivered and how we can achieve eternal life in heaven with God the Father. However, people are too stubborn and go by their ways. Solomon tells us that the way of man is crooked (Proverbs 2:15). Additionally, our ways more often than not deliver us away from God.
He has heard the cries of His people, Israel and promised a Messiah. Furthermore, God has extended the blessing to the whole world. The Father delivered us from our sins by sending His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ (John 3:16).
God delivers us through our faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. He is THE straight path. Further, He is the WAY, TRUTH and LIFE (John 14:6). And with our faith in Him, God gives us His saving grace. Accept Jesus Now.
Our Desperate Cry For Deliverance
Our problems no matter how small they are often get too much of our attention. This is a normal human response. Additionally, when something is wrong or we feel we are in danger, we have that self-preservation attitude that is innate to everyone. However, we should not forget that we are also journeying in this world. Everything we have is temporary. So, let us focus on the constant in our life, and that is our relationship with the Father.
Remember these:
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13). For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
We may not understand our hardships, but surrender it all to God. When the battle is so hard and it is difficult to stand, kneel! And send your KNEEmail to the Father.
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, praise and honour to your name. We are in a situation where we are desperate and need your guidance. Our life is in chaos and seems hopeless. You, O Lord, gave us hope through your Son, Jesus Christ. And we cling to Him for support as we traverse this difficult situation. Holy Spirit, please grant us an understanding and wisdom in our state. May you deliver us from evil and any temptation. Guard our fragile faith, and help us strengthen it with the words of God.
Jesus Christ, our Savior, you have endured the worst situation in life. You were condemned, scourged and crucified despite your innocence. Bless us with the same courage and endurance as we go through our challenging circumstances. We ask all of these in the saving name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
