God Is Perfect In His Three Divine Persons

Men are never duly touched and impressed with a conviction of their insignificance until they have contrasted themselves with the majesty of God.

– R.C. Sproul.

People often fail us. That is a sad truth because all of us are changing. Only a few are true to their words. More often than not, words or promises are not kept. How do we reconcile God’s perfectness when the way we think is imperfect? Read below and more.

Bible Reading

Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Numbers 23:19. Please, read our recent devotional from the Letter to the Hebrews 5:8: Suffering Can Teach A Lot About Obedience

The Triune God is perfect

In chapter 23, we see the contrast between the words of men and God. The author of Numbers, known to be Moses, made a distinction between the prophecies of Balaam and the word of God. John MacArthur, in his commentary, wrote man is unreliable while God is reliable and immutable. He does not change; therefore, His words always come to pass (The MacArthur Study Bible).

It is not only the Heavenly Father, who the Israelites knew, that is perfect, but all of the persons in the Godhead. Jesus lived a sinless life and in perfect obedience to the Father. While all things pure and perfect that we are able to do as humans come from the Holy Spirit.

The Triune God’s unchanging nature is evident in the following verses: God cannot lie – Titus 1:2, Hebrews 6:18, Numbers 23:19; He cannot change His mind – Numbers 23:19; God cannot sin or commit error – Deuteronomy 32:4; God is unchanging – Malachi 3:6.

Live a life pleasing to the Perfect God

Human beings were supposedly perfect until our first parents disobeyed God and sinned. Then, now we are far from perfect. It is written, For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous (Romans 5:19). However, we are still called to be perfect for our Heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48). The One who gave us righteousness through His obedience is God Himself, in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ.

And when Jesus ascended into heaven to be seated at the right hand of the Father, He left us with the Holy Spirit to guide us in all things we do. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit stirs our hearts to think, say and act in obedience and ways pleasing to the Heavenly Father.

Reflection

This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
  1. Have you acknowledged the sovereignty and perfectness of the Triune God? Accept Jesus Now.
  2. What are you doing in your life that pleases God?
  3. How do you share with others the majesty of God?
  4. Are you confused or reluctant on whether to trust in Him?

Prayer

Worthy are You O Lord, worthy is the Lamb Who was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing! Father, there is nothing in heaven nor on earth that can compare with the amazing glory and grace which You have poured out, in an untold and abundant measure upon this race of fallen man, than that which our Saviour Jesus Christ did when You sent Him into the world, to become the propitiation for our sins, and by Whose death and resurrection has redeemed us from the pit of hell.

There is nothing more beautiful nor worthy of our awe and wonder and eternal praise, than those glorified wounds in the body of Christ, which by Your grace have set us free from slavery to sin and Satan, death and hell. Not only did You create us by the power of Your mighty hand, but by Your grace, we have been bought with a price, the precious blood of Jesus Christ. May we never become too familiar with all that our Lord Jesus Christ did on our account when You sent Him to die for our sins and redeem our lives from destruction.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
