When we are calling to God to turn the eye of His favour towards us. He is calling to us to turn the eye of our obedience towards Him.
– Matthew Henry
Decision-making is tough. And currently, a lot of healthcare workers are faced with this difficult task. They are asked to choose between losing their jobs, which for some they consider as their vocation, and taking an experimental injection. But at the end of the day, I hold firm to what the scriptures say, “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go” (Isaiah 48:17). We will see in today’s reading how Moses prayed for God to show His ways to him and give him His favour.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Exodus 33:13. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of Psalm 51:6: The Teaching That Only God Can Give
God favours those who obey Him
Time and time again God shows His favour to those who follow His command. He remains faithful despite our unfaithfulness. The ultimate favour He has shown us is through His saving grace. When He sent His only begotten Son to redeem everyone that believes in Him as Lord and Saviour.
Moses, being before Jesus’ time, asked God directly for His favour. Furthermore, Moses asked for God to ‘shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight:’. Because it is only through walking with the Holy Spirit do we please God.
How can we obey?
Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians tells us how to obey God (1 Thessalonian 4:1). Repent from your evil ways and declare that Jesus is your Lord and Saviour. Live your life daily seeking to please God by living in the Spirit and not of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
- Are you obedient to God?
- Have you followed His Son’s teachings? Come to Jesus Now.
- Do you pray that the Holy Spirit direct your ways?
- How do you share this message with other people?
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I want to live godly in Christ Jesus and I ask that You would help me to develop an attitude of obedience to Your will and increasing trust in Your Word.
Help me to grow in grace, and to develop the right godly practice and scripture purpose in life so that You are lifted in my heart and glorified in all I do.
May I learn to praise You without ceasing and to develop an attitude of prayerfulness – and help me to be obedient to carry out all that I am called to do as a child of God – so that You increase as I decrease. Amen.
