Men’s hearts are being searched… it is a tremendous sifting time, not only of actions but of inner motives. Nothing can escape the all-searching eye of God.
– Frank Bartleman.
Human perceptions of things are often rooted in a worldly heart. Moreover, we are inclined to things that are against God’s will. That is our fallen nature, and we are born to that. Therefore, it is necessary for us to plea God to search our hearts constantly.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Psalm 139:23-24. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of Revelation 19:8: The Bride Has Made Herself Ready
Search My Heart, O God
In Psalm 139, King David implored God to search his heart. He knew that the contents of our hearts might lead him away from God. John MacArthur, in his commentaries, wrote, David invites God to continue searching his heart to root out any unrighteousness.
It is only through the guidance of the Holy Spirit where we can spot unrighteousness in our hearts. We can try to say that our actions are with good intentions. However, we will never know unless we entreat God’s help in searching our hearts and pointing to us the sinfulness that within it.
Make This A Habit
Our own searching within our hearts can be done. But it will be beneficial for us if we ask God to search our hearts and make us see the unrighteousness. Paul reminded us that whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable if there is any excellence if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things (Philippians 4:8).
This should be our habit, praying to God to help us search our hearts. The Holy Spirit will then tug out from our hearts things that are not pleasing to God. Then, we have to repent of it and turn away from the deed. Moreover, we have to place our faith in Jesus Christ, for He has saved us from our sins. And walk every day with the Holy Spirit that we may never be astray.
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.

Prayer
Dear Lord, I cannot improve upon David’s words in Psalm 139. So I make them my own as I pray:
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Give me ears to hear all that you want to say to me today.
I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.
