Trusting in Jesus Christ my Saviour, there is still a blessed quietness in the deep caverns of my soul, though upon the surface, a rough tempest may be raging, and there may be little apparent calm.
– C.H. Spurgeon
People say when it rains, it pours. Have you ever experienced this in your life?
I have shared with you some heartaches that my husband and I experienced at the beginning of the year 2020. Three loved ones passing one after the other in three months. We relied on each other for comfort since we do not have immediate family here in Canada.
Aside from each other, we depended on God’s provision for understanding our situation and holding fast to His comfort.
Similarly, King David felt overwhelmed with the troubles he faced from his oppressors. He expressed how he was in anguish and how he wanted to flee from his situation.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Psalm 55:3-5. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of Psalm 55:1-2: Is Whining Your Favorite Past Time?
Feeling Overwhelmed
When nothing in our life feels right, we feel swamped by problems and feel helpless in our situation. King David exhibited the same feeling in verses 3-5. He explained how he is restless because of his enemies, who he thought were his allies. Moreover, how he was in anguish for the terror of death that has fallen upon him. I have not met anyone that did not or has not felt this in their lifetime.
We should always remember that when faced with situations wherein we conflict with another person, that our enemy is not that particular person. But the prince of this world wants us to be indifferent towards each other.
Ephesians 6:12 says, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Satan is our enemy. And we should be watchful of his means of making us not united and fall away from our Father in Heaven.
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV
- How do you face storms in your life?
- Are you easily overwhelmed by them?
- Do you hate or keep grudges on people who offend you?
- Who do you rely on when you’re problematic?
- Is Jesus your refuge? If not, why? Accept Jesus Now.
