Almighty and eternal Lord God, the great Creator of heaven and earth, and the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; look down from heaven in pity and compassion upon me thy servant, who humbly prostrate myself before thee.– Prayer of George Washington, 1st President of the United States of America.
How depressing to see the situation of the world. Look for an instance at the United States of America. There has been a great shift from believing in God to not knowing and even denying His existence. According to the Pew Research Center, there are 70.6% of Christians in the US. With Evangelical Protestants being 25.4%. However, I wonder how many of this 25.4% know the True Gospel.
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Job 11:7-8. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of Psalm 55:22: Cast Your Burdens To Him Who Can Sustain You
Almighty God, Great And Sovereign
Understanding the greatness and sovereign of God is the downfall of man. Moreover, we have a habit of trying to comprehend and know everything, including the nature of God, that we fall into the sin of idolatry. I, for one, had been a doer of this sin. Furthermore, I moulded an image of God suitable for me and my transgressions. But who was I kidding? The moment the Holy Spirit showed me my ways were wrong, I realized that the knowledge I have about God was muddled, have truths and at times erroneous.
God is a great, almighty, sovereign and True God. He encompasses all that is within and without the world. While we are limited, our comprehension is finite. For this reason, numerous research is conducted by experts to uncover the unknown. Roy B. Zuck in his commentary explained, Zophar, Job’s friend, pointed out that the Lord’s mysterious, plummetless, unknowable wisdom, exceeds the height of the heavens…the depths of the grave the length of the earth, and the breadth of the sea.
How To Understand the Greatness And Almightiness Of God
Isaiah describes for us God’s great wisdom and almightiness when he said, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). Further, we will never comprehend God fully because we are still on earth. However, this does not mean we will never get to know Him.
Jesus Christ promised a comforter to His apostles and everyone who believes in Him before He ascended into heaven. The Holy Spirit guided the writers of the Scriptures to write what God wants the world to understand. He is the author of the Bible. Likewise, He had written it that one might get to know Him. Therefore, harden not your hearts and start reading your Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in your study, that you might know the truth about the Great, Almighty and Sovereign God.
And if you still trying to picture God in your mind, here is what Jesus answered to Philip: Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? (John 14:8-9)
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.

Almighty God, you are sovereign overall. We praise and give honour to your great name. Thank you for your Son, Jesus Christ, who has saved us from our sins and eternal damnation. And for sending the Holy Spirit, to guide us as we journey in life in obedience to you. Grant us, Lord, the faith and perseverance to know you and comprehend your Word. That we may apply it to our daily lives. Give us boldness to share the True Gospel to all.
All we pray in Jesus’ saving name. Amen.
