It was the greatest honour God did to man that he made man in the image of God, but it is the greatest dishonour man has done to God that he has made God in the image of man.
– Matthew Henry.
People pleaser. I have discovered about myself that it is one of my bad attitudes, especially during this generation. Nowadays, truth is relative. Moreover, political correctness overtakes the obligation of people to correct each other basing on the absolute truth.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Gospel according to John 5:41. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of Psalm 65:1: Praise The King Of Kings, To Whom Vows Are Made
Please God and not men
Verse 41 shows us how Jesus verified that He long to receive not honour from men. In the earlier verses, He explains His authority and His relationship with the Father. John MacArthur wrote in his commentary if Jesus agreed to be the kind of Messiah the Jews wanted, He would receive honour and glory from them (John MacArthur Study Bible).
But, Jesus sought the will of the Father. And only the glory from Him, do Jesus wanted to receive. Remember, as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts (1 Thessalonians 2:4).
Please Jesus Christ
We can please God when we please Jesus. Let us reflect on the words of Paul, for am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ (Galatians 1:10).
We can please both the Father and the Son when we follow the urgings of the Holy Spirit, read and live out the words of God and share the Gospel of Christ to everyone. However, the first thing we should do above all else is to repent from our sins and turn away from them because sins cause a barrier between us and God.
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
- Do you seek to please God? Accept Jesus Now.
- What are the ways you follow Jesus Christ?
- How does it affect your life when you do things that please Him?
- Why do you think we need to repent from our sins?
- Have you shared Jesus with others? Learn how.

Prayer
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
