The moment you enlist in the army of God, you personally become a target. You need to remember that if you’re living for and walking with Jesus Christ, the powers of darkness are aligned against you.
– Walter Martin
This verse and the succeeding verses were read to me by one of our pastors during my baptism. It served as a reminder and encouragement for me in my walk with Christ. I have highlighted three factors that we should reflect upon. These factors will help us set our goals and serve as our guide as we mature in our faith in Christ.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Letter of Paul to the Colossians 1:10. Please, read our recent devotional from the Letter of Paul to the Colossians 1:9: Do You Pray For Strangers?
Walk In A Manner Worthy Of The Lord
This is not just to be a good person for there is no one good except God (Mark 10:18). As Christians, we are asked to live a life that resembles that of Jesus Christ. Meaning, our ways should be different from the lifestyle of this world. Moreover, our actions should be following the promptings of the Holy Spirit. And our deeds should be an outward expression of the Word of God.
Bear Fruits In Every Good Work
We have to understand that our good works do not bring about our salvation. Rather, we do good works as an effect of our faith in Jesus Christ and the saving grace we received from Him. Good work only happens if the doer believes in Christ and the works are brought about by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As the scriptures say, You will recognize them by their fruits (Matthew 7:16).
Grow In Knowledge of God
A lot of people know God, but not all of them believe in Jesus. The important detail of knowing God is through Jesus Christ. Jesus said, If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. (John 14:7). Furthermore, our knowledge about the Lord Jesus increases when we immerse ourselves in the study of the scriptures. It does not matter whether it is the OT or NT, because, the entire Bible is about Jesus Christ (John 1:3).
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV

Prayer
Heavenly Father, you are all good and holy. Thank you for your Son, Jesus Christ, who saved us and justified us from our sins. We know that we are sinners and humbly confess our sins (mention your sins). Forgive us Lord, and may the Holy Spirit direct and reprove us in all our actions, thoughts and speech.
We pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
