In nursing school, we were taught to be servant leaders like Jesus Christ. Moreover, the words of Paul, Caritas Christi Urget Nos, were inculcated to us. The love of Christ impels us to go the extra mile for our patients. And this is what motivates and drives me as a nurse, the love of Christ that I have to share with others, even if they do not believe in Him.

Jesus The Servant Leader
In verse 13, we see that Jesus affirmed that He is the Master and Lord. He was more than a leader to His apostles. Furthermore, He had taught them ways that are pleasing to God’s eyes. Jesus leads His followers to repentance and lowing themselves to be of service to one another.
And we can see Jesus serving His disciples in verse 14 when He had washed all of their feet. He had done this to instill in their memory that He had served them, even though He is their Lord. In verse 15, the apostles should follow Jesus’ examples. And that is to serve one another.
How You Can Be A Servant Leader?
Everyone is called to be a servant leader. How can we do this? The first is to repent from your sins. You might ask why. The answer is simple you can never be a servant when you are proud, and repentance strips away that innate pride in us. Moreover, the Holy Spirit, who helps us act as servant leaders, does not dwell in a proud heart (Proverbs 21:4).
Second, know and believe in Jesus Christ as Your Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ is the ultimate role model of a servant leader. No pagan deity or religious figure died for your sake and received the wrath of God. Only Jesus. Furthermore, His entire life shows how He had served the Israelites and how He led His apostles. How can you know Jesus? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the Holy Bible.
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
