Scripture
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. — Deuteronomy 6:6-7 KJV
Observation
Yesterday, we have learned that we “shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God” (Luke 4:4). We have to carve God’s Word on our hearts, we have to keep it and do it.
“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.” Our hearts are “deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked”, says in Jeremiah 17:9. We cannot and must not trust our hearts, our own wisdom and righteousness. Because our hearts without God’s Word are stony hearts. But, if we keep God’s Word in our hearts, He will give us new heart, and new Spirit within it; He will take away our stony hearts and will give us hearts of flesh (Ezekiel 36:23).
New hearts, with new Spirit in it will bring forth good fruits. New hearts will shine the Light of God. And we shall not hide the Light, but “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). We “shall teach them diligently to your children“; we “shall talk of them when you sit in your house“; we shall talk and think of them “when you walk by the way” or when you drive to your work; God’s Word shall be with us “when you lie down, and when you rise“.
Only the Word of God can change your heart, only His Word can purify your heart from unrighteousness. “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8)
Application
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV
- Do you have the Word of God with you all day long?
- What is your priorities?
- Do your share the Word of God with your families, at work, with your neighbors and strangers?
- Does your heart produce good fruits?
- Do your works of faith give glory to your Father who is in heaven?
