2 And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.
3 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go haughtily: for this time is evil.
Times haven’t changed much since Micah’s time. People still plot and plan how they can get what they want regardless of who they hurt or whether or not it is legal. This can be family members or business owners. It can be anyone. Businesses often take advantage of people who are vulnerable.
There was and could still be a food company near me that had several stores in different neighborhoods. They were rated from A to D and the prices ranged from low to high according to the neighborhood. People who lived in areas where the income level was lower paid the highest prices. The company tried to justify their actions by claiming that there was a higher incident of theft and they had to offset the cost. Then there are others who will promise payment for a job once it is completed and then refuse to pay by saying that they didn’t like the workmanship. The workers never receive their pay. People have sold property they don’t own, and have committed many more crimes than I can mention here.
The Lord is well aware of these individuals and they will receive their punishment either in this world as people become aware of what is happening and put them in jail or in the next world when they must stand before the judgment seat of God. No one hides from God. May we keep our thoughts centered on doing what is right and not looking for ways to get away with what we know in our hearts is wrong. In this way we can stand proud before both our fellow human beings and our God.
Lord, life is not always easy or fair but may we keep your will in our hearts and minds, so that we can always stand before you with our heads held high. Amen.
