God doesn’t bless us just to make us happy; He blesses us to make us a blessing.
– Warren Wiersbe
I am not proud to say that sometimes I do not pray as much as I wanted to. Worldly responsibilities get the best of me. And I forget that the important task I have to prioritize is spending time with the one who gave me life. All relationships mature and become stronger when people invest time in them. Therefore, let this be a reminder that no matter how busy our day, we should spend time giving praise and thanksgiving to God, who has blessed us with more than we deserve.
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Psalm 134. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of James 3:8-10: How Is Human Speech Lethal?
Psalm 134 is one of the shortest chapters in the Bible, with only three verses. The chapter illustrates how the Levites and temple workers minister to God’s people. Moreover, they serve in the temple day and night, offering sacrifices on behalf of the people of Israel. The altar of the Lord never ceased in burning because of the sacrifices made.
Is this the picture of your life as well? Offering blessings to God night and day without ceasing. Or we only give praise to Him when we remember Him? Paul wrote, Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). He knew the importance of us praising God. But we are so proud to give God this honour. It is like what Isaiah said, Yet you have not called on Me, O Jacob; But you have become weary of Me, O Israel…“I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins (Isaiah 43:22, 25).
May the example of the Levites be in our minds when we go about our day. Furthermore, let us extend our giving of praise to God by ministering to others and sharing the hope we have in Christ.
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
God our Father, who art in heaven. Holy is your name above all names. We give you praise, O Lord, and may our lives be a living testimony of how good and just you are. For even when we are sinners you have given us Jesus Christ as the expression of your love for us, your sinful servants. May the guidance of the Holy Spirit reprove us in our walk with Christ and guide us as we cultivate our relationship with you.
We pray in the saving name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
