No Grave Can Bound The Sovereign Saviour, Jesus Christ

You can visit all the graves of all the religious leaders in the world, except Jesus Christ, because there is no grave.

– Charles “Chuck” Swindoll.

Gautama Buddha is buried in Jingchuan County, China, while Muhammad was in Medina, Saudi Arabia. These are only two of the many prominent religious leaders that died. Almost all religious leaders die, and their bodies are placed in graves. Except for one, Jesus Christ. It is factual that He physically died and stayed in the grave for three days. During this Lenten season, let us reflect on the passion and suffering of Jesus Christ.

Bible Reading

Today’s devotional reading is from the Letter of Paul to the Romans 14:9. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of Matthew 11:28-30: The Real Burden We Should Be Concerned About

The Graves’ Hold On Humanity

Paul wrote in the earlier chapters for the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Our sins bound us to our graves. Eventually, we will be judged by the Father and be sent away to the abyss.

I look around, myself included, and observed that people no longer can define what sins are. Each one has his/her perspective and standards on what are sins. All of which are designed to suit one’s lifestyle. That alone is scary, not knowing what is the Truth. Additionally, no concern of what will happen after the grave.

How To Escape The Grave?

Although, I am not saying that we will never be in our graves. On the contrary, we have to pass through being in the grave like Jesus did. However, the difference is after we go through it. There are only two destinations for everyone, heaven or hell. Those that say otherwise have to revisit and think over their worldview. Heaven is eternal life with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. While Hell is an eternal life apart from the Triune God.

So we can never escape the grave but that does not mean we are bound to it. Chose your destination wisely because eternal life is a very long time. And our Only Way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. No other religious figures have saved you from eternal damnation, only Jesus. Further, no religious leaders have defeated death and lived again (and forever), only Christ. Moreover, no religious leaders could be the bridge between unrighteous sinners and the Perfect Heavenly Father, only Christ Jesus. Accept Jesus Now.

Reflection

This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
  1. Are you ready to give up the things that are binding you to the grave?
  2. Do you believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead?
  3. How do you share Christ with others?
  4. Why do you think we need to share Jesus with others?

Prayer

Lord God, our Heavenly Father. You have created us out of love and know us within and without. We humbly ask for your mercy on our trespasses against you and to others (mention your sins).

Our Saviour Jesus Christ, you have died on the cross to bear our sins. And you have resurrected to be the liaison between us and the Father. We thank you for your saving grace and the opportunity to have eternal life with You and the Father.

May the Holy Spirit be with us always to defend us against the evil one who tempts us to complain rather than be grateful. Keep us always and reprove the ways that we may be worthy to be called followers of Christ.

In Jesus’ saving name, we pray. Amen.
