Scripture
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! — Matthew 6:22-23 KJV
Observation
Because of COVID people covered their smiles with facemasks and the only way to show your smile is through the eyes. Actually, I have never payed that much of attention to the person’s eyes – but now, with all that face coverings, I do. Moreover, I can tell if the one is smiling or being sad. Even though it has to do a lot with the muscles on the face, indeed the main ingredient is The Light (John 8:12).
In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus Christ said, that “the eyes is the lamp of the body”. Thus Jesus tells us, that our spiritual eyesight is vital for our walk with God and “if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light”. If your vision is single and focused on the only source of light which is Jesus Christ, you will reflect that Light not just to shine your pathway, but to shine the Light to the world (Matthew 5:14-16).
Contrary, “if your eye is bad” or you are totally blind “your hole body will be full of darkness” and your life path will be darkened.
Nowadays, very few people don’t know about Jesus. Due to amazing work of many missionaries around the world and easy access to the information via Internet everyone can learn about Jesus Christ. So, “if the light in you is darkness” I believe it is the matter of choice and priorities.
Application
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV
- Where do you focus your vision on?
- Is your spiritual eyesight healthy?
- Is there any dust in your eyes that block you from focusing on Jesus?
- Can other people see the Light in your eyes?
- Does your eyes always smile?
