Press forward. Do not stop, do not linger in your journey, but strive for the mark that is set before you.
– George Whitefield.
Work is sometimes tough, boring, and monotonous. However, this is not true for those who see their work as their vocation. We should also consider our faith as our vocation, striving hard on everything we do in service for Christ’s ministry. Moreover, we work as a result of the saving grace from God through Jesus Christ.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Ecclesiastes 9:10. Please, read our recent devotional from the Letter of Paul to the Romans 14:9: Jesus Is The Lord Of The Living And The Dead
Emptiness in the grave, strive hard today
In Psalm 88, we read forsaken among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom You remember no more, And they are cut off from Your hand (Psalm 88:5). Job also said, which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave? (Job 3:22). The grave is empty and filled with nothingness. We will be cut off from God’s hands. Further, we instinctively know that there is nothing we can do in the grave, for no one is striving hard for it nor looking forward to it.
Let us not waste our time doing nothing and packing a lot of regrets in life. And the biggest regret I am talking about is the insufficient service we give to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Furthermore, our lack of enthusiasm in knowing Him will not be of our benefit. Thus, we have to strive hard in everything we do now and offer everything for the glory of God.
Strive hard for Jesus Christ
King Solomon wrote, works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind (Ecclesiastes 1:14). Our works and learnings should not be motivated by worldly desires. But as Paul said, press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).
Everyone should strive hard to work for the kingdom of Jesus. Also, strive to get to know Him deeper. And we are able to know Him better by reading the Scriptures. The Bible will also guide us as we work and interact with other people. Letting them see the works of Jesus with our lives.
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
- Do you see your work or role in life as a vocation?
- What are the things you strive hard for?
- Is the command of Jesus part of it? Accept Jesus Now.
- How do you share His Gospel with others?
- Are you striving hard to share the Good News with everyone you meet?
- An inspiration to keep you striving hard for His glory.

Prayer
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
