Fight the good fight of faith, and God will give you spiritual mercies.
– George Whitefield.
We often feel tired of fighting or even defeated. But as the saying goes, when there is life there is hope. For us Christians, life and hope are Christ. Moreover, we should fight the good fight of faith, not only for our faith. But also the spreading of the Gospel of Christ to others.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the 1st Letter of Paul to Timothy 6:12. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of Haggai 2:4: The Bestowed Strength From God
Timothy’s good fight of faith
Timothy was one of Paul’s sons in the faith. Paul had travelled with him and had taught him all he knows about Jesus. The letter Paul had written was to encourage Timothy to never give up. That Timothy should not lose sight of the eternal life to which we are to receive through Jesus Christ.
John Macarthur wrote the good fight of faith is the spiritual conflict with Satan’s kingdom in which all men of God are necessarily involved. Timothy was called by God to be His follower and has been entrusted a ministry, to teach others about the Good News of Christ. And Paul as his father in faith emboldened him to continue the fight of faith.
Our good fight of faith
Are you fighting a good fight of faith or running away from it? Life, as we know, is different 5 years ago. People are indifferent to each other. And social distancing and all the restrictions are making the people farther from each other. The message of Paul to Timothy rings to us to this day. Furthermore, it encourages us to not give up in the battle between good and evil.
This message was also sent to the Ephesians when Paul wrote, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Constantly, we are reminded to keep the faith in Christ and the Holy Spirit will help us fight a good fight.
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess my sins to you and share my belief in you with others. When I face persecution and sorrow, give me the strength to fight the good fight of faith. Keep my head high and my eyes on you. Show me the truth of scripture and not allow me to be consumed with the words of other people. Help me resist temptation and walk the path of holiness.
We pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
