The Word of God directs us in our work and way, and a dark place indeed the world would be without it. The commandment is a lamp kept burning with the oil of the Spirit, as a light to direct us in the choice of our way, and the steps we take in that way.
– Matthew Henry.
Direction. We all need this in order not to be stuck where we are. A child gets direction from his/her parents, a student from the teacher. Moreover, direction leads us to or away from our end goals. Christians receive their direction from God, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and His Words.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Deuteronomy 33:3. Please, read our recent devotional from the Letter of Paul to Titus 2:10: The Good Faith We Receive From The Doctrine Of Christ
The directions of God
Alcuin, an English Scholar, once said Man thinks God directs. This quote is true. Although we should not forget that our faculties are a gift from God as well. As His creation, God gave us the ability to think for ourselves and gave us free will. Furthermore, the free will He gave us is not ‘do what you want will’ it is a ‘do what is morally good will’.
But like how God led the Israelites out of slavery, He will do the same for us. He will give us directions and instructions to walk the path that leads to Him. In the words of the Prophet Isaiah, and the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail (Isaiah 58:11).
He directs when we following Christ
The best direction God has given us is to follow His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ’s path leads us to the Father in Heaven. It is written, for to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps (1 Peter 2:21). I do share the sentiments of every Christians that there are other areas in our life that we want a clear direction from God. Like, where to live, what job to apply what the next steps in life we should take.
However, let not these concerns take too much of your attention that you fail to look into what God has called you to do for His Kingdom. We know that we are specks of dust on the earth, but under God’s hands, we have a purpose. And that is to worship Him and serve Him all the days of our lives until He will come again in glory.
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.

Prayer
Lord, I pray you would move the Spirit more boldly in my life. I know that any sin can grieve and diminish the voice of the Spirit, and I pray against the temptation to sin. Help me crave your presence more than I crave sin. Help me grow in the fruit of the Spirit and so walk closer with Yourself. I pray for guidance from your Spirit- let your will and promises always be a meditation of my heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
