Scripture
2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. — Galatians 6:2 KJV
Observation
This verse may sound like a contradiction to the verse 5, where Paul says “For every man shall bear his own burden.” However, the Greek words are different. In verse 2 the word means “human frailties”; in verse 5 – “responsibility”.
Do you remember in Matthew 22 vv 34-40, one of the Pharisees who was a lawyer asked Jesus: “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And what Jesus answered him? Jesus said: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind..” and “..You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” And after that Christ added: “On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.“
Thus, Paul asking us to DO God’s two Greatest Commandments “Bear one another’s burdens“. Which means to sympathize one another in different circumstances and troubles. Beside, it is the supreme imitation of Jesus Christ, who with great passion carried on our burdens on His own shoulders and died on the cross for the remission of our sins. So are we, should be compassionate to other’s load in different trials on their life path; to be more like Jesus “and so fulfill the law of Chris“.
Even though, we have to help one another as needed, but we should not depend on help of others what we can do well along with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Application
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV
- Do you love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind?
- Do you love your neighbor as yourself?
- Do you bear your burden faithfully?
- Do you have compassion to others in their tribulations?
- Do you help anyone to bear their load?
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You that You created us in Your image. We thank You, Lord God that You placed Love in our hearts and souls and minds, so we can be like You. We pray Lord, that You will send the Holy Spirit to indwell in us and to move us with compassion to other people. We pray, Lord God, that You will give us strength and power to bear a worldly sorrow, like Jesus Christ Your Son carried out our cross for us to the Calvary.
We pray in Jesus Mighty name. Amen
