There are so many to say about the first couple of verses in the book of Genesis. About God who is eternal, existing before the universe, who spoke into existence time, space and matter. About God who constituted physical environment and gave meaning to everything. About God, Elohim, the Creator of this tri-universe, the uni-plural God who manifests Himself in the three distinct persons, – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. About God who has no equal: no other religion or philosophy, nor pagan pantheism, or even cosmogony, whether in ancient paganism or modern naturalism or evolutionism, mentions the absolute origin of the universe, the first cause.
Also, about those who cannot see all the majesty and splendor of God. About those who blind and lost in their ignorance and deceit. About those who celebrating over iniquity and wickedness. About those who marching straight into the Abyss.
Scripture
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. -- Genesis 1:1-2 KJV
Observation
The existence of transcendent God the Creator and the necessity of primeval special creation of the universe is confirmed by the discoveries in the natural science. “In the beginning God created heaven and the earth“. I dare you to ask a five-year-olds what these very first nine words mean. They will answer you without hesitation exactly what it means: God created everything. He owns everything and He makes the rules. He loves prudent and obedient ones and He punishes foolish and disobedient ones. The theologians and scholars making the answer very convoluted.
The stage of the earth, described in the verse 2, is identical to that of the man and woman after they sinned, – “without form, and void“. The transgression of the law separated us from God’s presence, who is an essential source of life. We became the creatures without clear, definite structure of mind and spirit, we ended up being in the “darkness“. The very sin placed us “upon the face of the deep“, – it brought us to complete destruction and obliteration. But “the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the water” to make VERY GOOD that, what was spoiled and to make FINISHED that, what was impossible to accomplish.
Application
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV
- How often do you think about your origin?
- Do you admire God who created and formed you?
- What does it mean for you to be a creation of God?
- Does it prompt you to think and behave in certain way?
- What do think is a godly attitude?
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, we adore and glorify You name. You are the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. You created and formed us, You gave us life. Lord God we pray that the Holy Spirit will touch the hearts of those who don’t know You and hearts of those who don’t want to know You. We pray that they will see the beauty and glory of Your creation and will worship You Lord. We pray that they will confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord and the King!
All these we pray in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen
