The Saving Grace Of God Wiped Out Our Transgressions

Oh, the hour of forgiven sin, the moment of perfect pardon, our souls shall never forget you while, within you, life and being find immortality!

– Charles Spurgeon.

In the history of Israel, we can see the saving grace of God. We can learn the divine providence and judgement of God from studying it. Moreover, in Israel’s history, we came to know about and receive the saving grace of God. Although, we have to remember that this saving grace is not your entitlement. Here is why.

Bible Reading

Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Jeremiah 50:20. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of 1st Samuel 18:17: Deceitful Hearts Of People Is Not Hidden From God

Israel’s Saving Grace

The prophet Jeremiah recounts Israel’s past in Jeremiah 50:17-19 and God’s saving grace to them. In verse 17, he reminded Israel of how they suffered because they turned away from God. The next verse showed that despite their disobedience and unfaithfulness to God, He still protected them when they had called to Him. As a result, God had afflicted their oppressors. Ultimately, when they have turned back to God, He restored them.

In verse 20, we can see the promise of God’s saving grace to Israel. The iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve (Jeremiah 50:20). All these because of the works of the Messiah.

Your Saving Grace In Christ Jesus

Did you know that this saving grace is extended to you and me? How? Through our faith in Jesus Christ. He is the promised Messiah to Israel and for us, our Saviour and Lord. You might think that you do not need saving. Well, you are wrong about that. Everyone needs saving for our good works can never bring us to heaven. Only through repentance and faith in Christ Jesus do we receive God’s saving grace.

As we start the Holy Week, we commemorate the passion and suffering of Jesus Christ as He bore our iniquities, remembering from Jerusalem’s the celebration when He had entered the city to His walk carrying the cross to Calvary. All to fulfill the will of God, because He loves us (John 3:16) and does not want us to be eternally damned (2 Peter 3:9). Hence, the saving grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone, by God’s grace alone.

Reflection

This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
  1. Have you acknowledged Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour? Accept Jesus Now.
  2. Do you recognize the current state of your soul?
  3. How does it affect your daily life?
  4. What are your thoughts about the topic of life after death?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, praise and honour to your name. Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to save us, even though we are not worthy of Your love. You are unchanging, and saves those who fall into sins when they call unto you and repent. And for this, we thank you. Show us your mercy, oh Lord, and grant us a forgiving heart that we may forgive others. May we show Your love to others and may we be the instrument of your peace everywhere we are.

All this we ask through Your Holy Name. Amen.
