There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, “Thy will be done”, and those to whom God says, “All right, then, have it your way”.
– C.S. Lewis.
Are you familiar with the saying ‘show me your friends and I will tell you who you are’? We might think that we are not the same as the people who are close to us. But that is wrong thinking. Our company has one or more attributes that are similar to us. Why do we have to be careful in choosing our company? Read the significance.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Proverbs 18:24. Please, read our recent devotional from the Book of Mark 6:30: What Will Be Your Final Report To The Jesus Christ?
Your Company Defines You
The verse in Proverbs warns us about aimlessly befriending everyone we meet. Let me clarify. There is nothing wrong with being friendly. However, when you do not conscientiously follow moral standards in choosing your company, you may come to ruin.
Although, it is also factual that there is two influence that may come about. Your company may either led you astray or bring you to the correct path. But do not take a risk on these chances. Moreover, consider the urge of your flesh and the discipline of your spirit. Human desires always follow what is contrary to God’s Laws. Yet, even if you have the discipline in your spirit, it does not make sense why you would allow yourself to be tempted through your company (1 Corinthians 15:33).
Ask The Holy Spirit To Be Your Company
Jesus intentionally asked the Father to send the Holy Spirit to be the companion of His followers (John 14:16). For He knew that without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will be like the blind leading the blind. Additionally, the Holy Spirit guides and enlightens us as we journey to Christ.
Let us be vigilant with the people with whom we surround ourselves. Make sure your journey is with a company that is also going to the same goal, which is to be with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
- Observe the people you are close to. What are your differences?
- How about your similarities?
- Are they obstacles in getting close to Christ?
- Do they aid you in your walk with Jesus?
- Have you and your company asked Jesus to be in your lives? Accept Jesus Now.
- Aim: Include your friends in your prayers, that they will be guided by the Holy Spirit.
- Challenge: Tell your non-Christian friends about the Good News of Jesus.

Prayer
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
