There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made know through Jesus.
– Blaise Pascal
Do you recall the moments when you learned something new? What was your feeling? It is a nice feeling when you are learning or knowing. However, in this day and age, learning something does not connote wisdom. There is a lot of information that we have to discern if it is true or a lie. There is only one source you can go to if you are seeking genuine wisdom.
Bible Reading
Today’s devotional reading is from the Book of Psalm 51:6. Please, read our recent devotional from the Gospel according to Luke 5:5: How Effective Is Your Toiling?
He teaches Truth and Wisdom
Psalm 51 is titled Confession and Forgiveness of Sin in the KJV translation. It was David’s penitential psalm when the prophet Nathan confronted him and about Bathsheba. Moreover, this scripture teaches us how David lamented and ask God for His forgiveness. What struck me the most is how King David acknowledge his wrongdoings and blamed no one but himself and begged God for His divine forgiveness.
This is true wisdom that only God can teach us. No matter how you reason out, people tend to rationalize or blame others when they are at fault. That is our human nature. Moreover, it only shows that we listen more to our flesh – pride – than accept our fault. Only the Holy Spirit can teach us repentance. And therefore, we have to pray every day for Him to teach us this.
Do not believe any “truths” given by the world
The world will never teach you to repent and turn to Jesus Christ to be saved. Rather it will tell you to do the contrary. Forgive yourself, love yourself, God loves you no matter who you are. These are the few lies we hear in the world. There is nothing wrong with loving yourself, you should for you are an image-bearer of God. However, if you love it in the way the world instructs you, then you are wrong.
Pray for the gift of discernment to know evil from good. And not based on your worldly understanding but that of God’s standards.
Reflection
This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV.
- Do you know where to go if you seek wisdom?
- Have you sought the truth about God?
- What do you know about Jesus’ truth? Come to Jesus Now.
- Do you ask the Holy Spirit to teach you God’s words?
- What lies of the world did you learn today?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we are told to pray in spirit and truth and I ask You to show me how to pray in spirit and truth. Teach me, Lord, to pray as You would have me pray.
I pray that my human spirit may be led and guided by Your Holy Spirit, Who by faith in Christ is living in me, so that I may be directed to pray following Your will. I pray that my human spirit may be submitted to Your Spirit of Truth, for I know the He alone can guide me into all truth.
As I bow before Your throne in humility and thankful praise for this privilege of prayer that has been bestowed on all Your children, I pray that You would guide my prayers by the truth of Your Word, so that my prayers and supplications may be in accordance with Your will. And in line with Your desires.
Teach me, Lord, to pray in spirit and truth, so that my humble requests may become to You a sweet savour, and glorify my Father Who is in heaven. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
