The Throne of Grace

Scripture

For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. — Psalm 27:5 KJV

16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. — Hebrews 4:16 KJV

Observation

Herein, in Psalm, David assures us that God is always (Emmanuel ) with us and He protects us – “he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble”. Also, David portrays the privilege to worship our God as well as a need to be in the presence of God, “let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace”. But in order to approach the throne of our Holy God, one’s sins has to be forgiven through the sacrificial and intercessory ministry of a high priest. Jesus Christ is the Lamb – perfect sacrifice and He is our Hight Priest. Because Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead “we may receive mercy and find grace”. Jesus Christ is our Rock and “in time of need” God will “lift me high upon a rock”. (notes based on ESV Bible)

Application

This is the time for your journaling. Reflect on these questions. Ask the Holy Spirit to test your faith and your walk with Christ.

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV

  1. Have you ever had desperate and hopeless situation in your life?
  2. Where did you find haven?
  3. Do you feel presence of God during your time of tribulations?
  4. Do you submit to God’s will in every aspect of your life?
  5. Do you “draw near to the throne of grace” with confidence?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the privilege to be adopted in You family. Thank you, Lord – for you are merciful and gracious God. Thank you, Lord for Your guidance and protection amidst tribulations in our lives. We pray that with the power of the Holy Spirit will give us wisdom, knowledge, understanding and confidence, so we can draw near to the Throne of Grace. And so may we find haven in Jesus Christ in the time of need.

All these we pray in the Holy name of Jesus Christ. Amen
